Safeway Denver has been struggling for a long time as evidenced by the lack of lifestyle stores. Even the 100% closed Dominicks Division had a higher percentage of lifestyle stores than Denver Division.
So now they will close 9 metro Denver Stores and 1 Grand Junction Store, announced 05/2015 (they closed at least 4 Colorado Stores last summer too): Photos of some of these stores:
Castle Pines/Castle Rock:
Thornton 120th (photos from 2011):
Westminster/Zuni, built as a lifestyle store in a newer area, was a "Value" store when I took these photos (other stores designated to that since eliminated program were in Pueblo, Scottsbluff, and one near the Denver Airport, note none of those are closing):
Aurora/16921 E. Quincy, older early 80's store but it had a Safeway gas station in the parking lot also, photos are from 2011 so maybe it has since been remodeled
Aurora/22675 E. Aurora Pkwy.
A clone of the Castle Rock store above but appeared to do even less business. No interior photos. It also had a Safeway gas station out front and was never remodeled into lifestyle. A very nice store.
Centenneal/S. Quebec:
No photos of this one. Lifestyle store.
Littleton/7500 S. Piece
Aurora/S. Buckley
2014 closure: Chambers Rd., Denver (another "value" store which was still open at this time last year):
